Beautiful Weather To End the Weekend and Hurricane Irma Update

A great start to the weekend with a nice amount of sunshine and temperatures in the low 70's.  A few places hit the mid 70's, mainly due to extra sunshine in those areas.  The skies stay clear for this evening, which means we'll get to see a beautiful sunset! Temperatures will be in the mid 60's this evening, so be sure to make plans because it's going to be a gorgeous evening. Once the sun sets, temperatures will start to cool pretty rapidly, which could lead to some patchy fog early tomorrow morning.  We'll dip into the mid to upper 40's during the overnight.

Any patchy fog that forms tomorrow will clear out a little after 8am, after which we'll have a beautiful end to the weekend with more sunshine and warmer temperatures across the Stateline in the mid 70's!  We'll keep that sunshine going into the work week, which will cause temperatures to warm up even more into the upper 70's.  By the time we get to the middle of next week, cloud cover will build up as the remains of Irma will be pulling some moisture into our area, but our temperatures will stay in the upper 70's.  Once the remains of Irma die off on Thursday, we'll get the sunshine back and see temperatures get bumped up into the low 80's to end the work week.  Temperatures are looking to stay warm going into next weekend with partly cloudy skies.

Hurricane Irma:
Irma was a Category 5 during the overnight last night, but today it weakened to a Category 3 with 125 mph winds because it skimmed Cuba.  However, it's starting to make its way towards the southern tip of Florida, and it will re-strengthen by the time it makes landfall early tomorrow morning.  It's even possible this could become a Category 5 by landfall.

The reason that Irma will re-strengthen quickly is because of this pool of hot water surrounding Florida that's warmer than the rest of the water in the tropics.  This is what will draw Irma to Florida, and is also what will cause Irma to track through Florida after it makes landfall.  The Bermuda High has been keeping Irma towards the coastline, but the hot water pool is what's actually going to draw Irma through Florida, as opposed to the High just keeping it along the east coast.

After Irma tracks through Florida it'll make its way into southern Tennessee by the middle of next week, where it'll eventually fizzle out.  Between this evening and Thursday, areas in the southern tip of Florida will see at least 15-20", with the rest of Florida looking to see 10-15" in that same time period.  The 10-15" rainfall will extend as far north as Georgia and South Carolina, with lower amounts extending as far north as Kentucky.
