So far the new year is off to a relatively quiet start locally and even though we're only two days in, it looks to remain fairly quiet through the weekend. A cold front passing through Thursday evening will keep skies mostly cloudy and bring temperatures down about ten degrees from Thursday's high of 48 degrees.
Low pressure moving in from the south Friday will bring rain up through southern and central Illinois, Indiana and Ohio leaving our skies
mostly cloudy. A second low pressure system will move in from the northwest on the backside of the first low. This will move down through Minnesota, Iowa and west-central Illinois. Most of the accumulating snow looks to remain across Iowa and west-central Illinois, with a few light snow showers further north. At most, an inch of snow would fall overnight Friday into Saturday. Once that low moves out skies will turn partly cloudy Saturday afternoon with temperatures in the mid and upper 30s.
