A 3.4 magnitude earthquake occurred close to the Stateline Wednesday morning. The earthquake struck around 2:53AM, and was centered to the northwest of Somonauk in extreme Dekalb County.
According to the USGS, the earthquake had an estimated depth of 9.8 kilometers.
Quakes of this magnitude aren't damage producers, and equates to
the energy produced by 1,000 lbs of explosives. Areas across Dekalb County felt would have likely felt it as well as the western Chicago suburbs from Crystal Lake to Joliet.
