Low pressure spun across the Great Lakes this weekend producing some fairly hefty rainfall totals for some in Wisconsin and Iowa. The heaviest of the rain fell to the north and northwest of the main track of the low leaving a band of 2" to 3" of rain north of Madison with isolated 4" to 5" rain totals for a few locations. Closer to the Stateline there were some who received over an inch of rain but most received between half an inch to an inch. Officially at the Rockford Airport we received 0.88". The rain this weekend was a much needed rainfall and because it fell in a 48 hour period flash flooding was not a concern.
Looking ahead this week another strong October storm system will take shape across the Plains/Midwest bringing with it the threat for rain/thunder and also cooler weather by weeks end. Right now the low remains off the Pacific Northwest coast but it's forecast to move into the upper Great Lakes by Wednesday night. Another strong cold front will swing through Wednesday with rain and possibly thunderstorms developing right along the front. As cold air funnels in Thursday and Friday it's likely showers will continue with temperatures remaining in the 50s.
