Gusty southwest winds push temperatures back into the 60s to start the week

Temperatures Sunday afternoon warmed into the upper 40s, reaching 49 degrees in Rockford. Those numbers have now fallen into the low to mid 30s under mostly clear skies as of 9pm.

The gusty northwest wind we had throughout much of the day has calmed a bit with high pressure drifting to our south. Winds will remain light through the night allowing temperatures to fall into the upper 20s.

Southwest winds will increase shortly after sunrise Monday, gusting to 30 mph during the afternoon. This will bring temperatures into the mid-60s area wide. This will also elevate the fire risk for southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois due to the warm temperatures, gusty winds, dry vegetation, and lower relative humidity. As a result, it is advised not to do any outdoor burning on Monday.

By Monday night dew point temperatures will begin to rise as relative humidity values also increase.

Winds will remain gusty Tuesday as afternoon temperatures once again warm into the mid and upper 60s. A cold front to the west, combined with an upper-level disturbance, will move through late in the evening. This may generate an isolated shower or storm overnight Tuesday. Temperatures are likely to warm into the 60s once again Wednesday, but an even stronger cold front Wednesday night and Thursday will push temperatures into the 40s most likely Thursday afternoon. Rain and thunder chances will also increase during that time.
