Not Cold For Long

Arctic high pressure over the central plains continues to feed very cold air across the Stateline tonight. It will be clear overnight with northwest winds slowly diminishing. The low will be around 7 degrees around daybreak. The winds will be from the northwest 10-18 mph. That is still rather brisk, but not as strong as the past couple of days. With temperatures in the single digits, wind chills will drop to 0 to 10 below late tonight, and into the daybreak hours on Sunday. Sprawling high pressure from Canada will be situated over Arkansas early Sunday morning and will dominate the weather over the eastern 3/4 of the country.  So, it will be sunny on Sunday with a high temperature around 27 degrees.  The wind will be westerly at 10-20 mph.  The high pressure will move into Mississippi by evening, and into  Georgia by 6 am Monday morning.  A light southwesterly wind will develop on Sunday night.  It will not be quite as cold with a low early Monday morning around 13 degrees.  Moisture moving northward from the Gulf of Mexico will move into the area on Monday making skies cloudy.  There will be a chance of light snow during the morning, and light snow will be likely on Monday afternoon into the evening hours.  There could be a little accumulation with this system.  A trough of low pressure will continue the chances of light snow and snow showers through early Tuesday morning.  It will be milder on Tuesday with a high near 36 degrees .  On Wednesday it will be partly sunny with a high near 40 degrees, but a new system from the southern stream will begin to hook toward the northeast out across the southern plains on Wednesday night.  With milder air in place, the precipitation could be a mix of rain and snow on Wednesday night and Thursday.  The low pressure system looks like it may pass northeast across Illinois on Thursday.  With a little colder air following in behind the low, there could be some flurries on Thursday night.   A sprawling high pressure fom the Pacific will dominate the weather across most of the country on Friday and Saturday.  High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30's with partly to mostly sunny skies leading into next weekend.
