Amazing Satellite Video

Last Friday, NOAA decommissioned the satellite GOES-12. It was operational for about ten years before being retired. Below is a timelapse of everything it saw in those ten years... all in about three minutes!

Pretty cool, right? It goes by fast, but here's a few things you can see in the video:

- Hurricane Katrina hits the U.S. about 47 seconds in.
- The Blizzard of 2009 can be seen at around the 2:02 mark.
- "Snowmageddon" (Feb. 2010) can be seen at around the 2:04 mark.
- The "Super Outbreak" (April 2011) can be seen at around the 2:24 mark.
- Superstorm Sandy can be seen at around the 2:50 mark.

GOES-13 has taken over for the newly retired satellite. Let's see what sights it can capture in the next decade. -BA
