Stargazer Alert: Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower Tonight

The forecast is looking pretty good tonight if you want to check out the Eta Aquarid meteor shower.

The Eta Aquarid is one of two meteor showers that are a byproduct of Halley's Comet. The other is the Orionid meteor shower that typically happens in October. These meteor showers are produced when the earth passes through the debris trail of Halley's Comet. The name comes from the fact that these meteors appear to be coming out of the constellation Aquarius.

The Eta Aquarid will peak a few hours before dawn, but should be viewable all night assuming skies stay fairly clear. At its peak, 10-20 meteors can be seen an hour.

If you don't feel like venturing outside tonight, or if skies are too cloudy, you can check out a live webcast of tonight's meteor shower by clicking here. -BA
