Record Breaking Temperatures, Early Season Snow, and a Frost Advisory

Say it isn't snow!? Rockford and many other areas of the Stateline woke up to light snow falling this morning, we saw trace amounts of snow and .05 inches of rain today. Rockford may have seen its earliest snow fall this morning. The trace of snow recorded on October 3rd, 1951 may not be accurate, and is being verified by the National Weather Service.

While the snow record is still being verified, we did break the record for the coldest high temperature for Rockford today. The current record of 50° set in 1988 was broken today, Rockford's high temperature was 49°. To put today's temperatures in perspective, our normal low temperature is 46°.

We woke up to snow this morning, and tomorrow morning we will be waking up to frost. The entire Stateline is under a Frost Advisory this evening, starting after midnight. You'll want to cover any sensitive plants and keep pets inside if possible. The normal first freeze for the Stateline area is about this time, from the 1st of October until the 10th.

Average First Freeze Info
We do start to warm up for the rest of the weekend and into next week. Temperatures on Sunday will climb into the mid 50s, and then we will see the mid 60s by the middle of the week. -KC
