Illinois Crop Production off to Slow Start

A cold Fall and a wet Winter and Spring have threatened corn and soybean yield in Illinois. As of May 19th, corn planted was only at 24%. This is a significant drop from the 2014-2018 average at this time which is 89%. Corn also emerged at 11%, down from last year's 81% and the 5-year average of 71%. Soybeans have also struggled, planted at 9% compared to the 5-year average of 51%. A wet week ahead with little sunshine is expected to keep the crop progress down.
