UPDATED: NWS Confirms FIVE Illinois Tornadoes From Monday Night

Update Wednesday Morning:  Further west, the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Thomson, IL (Carroll County) Sunday evening.  The tornado had winds estimated around 100 mph, was on the ground for 2 miles with a width of 3/8 of a mile.  This tornado occurred roughly 2 miles North of Thomson at 12:30am and ended 4 miles North of Thomson. at 12:33am.


The National Weather Service in Chicago has now confirmed five tornadoes from Monday night's severe thunderstorms.

The first tornado occurred in Earlville, which is south of Rochelle and DeKalb in LaSalle County. The tornado was embedded in a swath of damaging 80-100mph straight line winds. The tornado itself was an EF-1 with estimated winds of 110mph. The tornado was on the ground for about a mile and a half.

A second tornado was confirmed near northeast Plainfield and northwest Romeoville in Will County. The tornado was an EF-1 with estimated 95mph winds. It started in Plainfield and ended in Romeoville, crossing I-55 near mile marker 261 in the process. It was on the ground for 3 miles. No injuries were reported, but more than 50 trees were uprooted and several homes received minor damage.

The third tornado was confirmed in southwest Kendall County, near U.S. highway 52 and the LaSalle/Kendall county line. The EF-1 had estimated 100mph winds and was on the ground for 1.5 miles. Damage was found at two farmsteads.

Tornadoes four and five, both EF-1s, formed near Grant Park in northeast Kankakee County. One of the tornadoes even crossed into Indiana. More details are being gathered on these tornadoes.
