Just a few spotty showers will linger through the rest of the morning ahead of a cold front. Temperatures will briefly rise, before slightly falling this afternoon.
6:40am Update: Back edge of the moving through the I-39 corridor. As a cold front moves closer later this morning, additional showers will last through Noon.
Rain and thunderstorms started shortly before 4am Thursday morning. And, while nothing severe is expected today, a few heavier downpours will be possible.
The first wave of rain is a result of low pressure and a strong low level jet. What's a low level jet? Just like winds move very fast within the jet stream nearly 30,000 ft above the surface of the earth, there are stronger winds found roughly between 3,000 and 5,000 ft above the surface. These winds help pull in moisture and often time provides the energy needed for stronger thunderstorms to develop. This initial wave will move east through 7am, with the second round of showers coming later this morning and afternoon.
The rain will linger through the early afternoon with skies turning cloudy later today. Don't forget to grab the umbrella this morning because you'll need! Highs today will reach the low to middle 60's.
