Skies were filled with cloud cover Thursday afternoon but the sun did make an appearance, and actually made for a fairly comfortable evening, across much of northern Illinois. Outside of a very light shower or sprinkle, skies will remain partly cloudy through the early overnight.
A weak disturbance moving in from Iowa by Friday morning will bring back the chance for light showers during the morning commute, but like Thursday the heaviest rainfall shifts southward throughout the afternoon.
The remnant low pressure system from what was Tropical Storm Gordon will continue to lift north through Arkansas and Missouri. This low will then move east across southern Illinois and Indiana by Saturday night and Sunday morning. Extremely high amounts of moisture will be pulled northward bringing significant rainfall to parts of Missouri and Illinois. In fact, totals could reach near five to six inches by Sunday night. Flash Flood Watches have been issued to the south as a result.
While it looks like the more southern track will take hold, it's possible that the low may come a little closer to east-central Illinois Saturday evening and Saturday night. If so, this would bring rain northward through early Sunday morning. While it wouldn't be as much locally as what will fall to the south, the rain would continue to slow the rivers that have already started to recede.
Right now the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies, temperatures in the low 70's and a slight chance for rain late Saturday.
