Fall-Like Chill Nearing Record Cold

Temperatures these next couple of days might not be breaking records, but it'll be close.  An unseasonably cool air mass has settled in over the Midwest, bringing temperatures nearly ten to twenty degrees below average.  Highs Tuesday reached 68 degrees in Rockford - a good ten degrees below average.  The record cold high temperature for today (coldest high temperature) was 62 degrees set back in 1905.  Wednesday we'll be a little closer to the record cold high with temperatures forecast to only reach 65 degrees.  The record cold high temperature for Wednesday is 63 degrees set back in 1956.  Like Tuesday, there will likely be a few locations that only remain in the low 60's for the afternoon.

Record low temperatures will remain in tact these next couple of nights.  Those numbers are in the upper 30's and low 40's.  Forecast low temperatures are expected to remain in the mid to upper 40's.
