Warmup Coming Up

It was a cold one across the Stateline today as temperatures only got into the upper 20's during the afternoon.  We're supposed to be in the low 30's, but couldn't quit make it today despite all the sunshine we had.  The reason was because of the northerly winds we had pushing through our area, not to mention that the sun is weak this time of year, so it couldn't do much for us, especially with the cold air flowing in.

As we go through the overnight tonight, this low pressure system will keep pushing cold air into our area.  The cold front won't move into our area, so we don't have to worry about precipitation.  At most, we may see a few flurries up in southern Wisconsin, but northern Illinois is expected to stay dry during the overnight with cloudy skies.

Once we get into Friday we're going to see a wind pattern change that's going to allow for this cold front to transition into a stationary front.  With that front up north, it'll keep the precipitation away from our area, but it'll still be cloudy during Friday afternoon with highs around 32°.

Once we get into Friday night, another low pressure system will form over in southern Minnesota.  This will cause the stationary front to transition into a warm front, with winds solely coming out of the south.  This will warm us up during the overnight, keeping overnight lows in the mid 20s as opposed to the teens.

Along with that, this will also bring up our high temperatures for Saturday, where we're expected to get into the low 40's during the afternoon!

This low pressure system will work with the high pressure system that will form over Tennessee to channel lots of warm air into our area.  This will warm us up rapidly going into the weekend, and also keep temperatures above average for the entire weekend.  However, that front will drift south on Sunday, bringing us a slight chance for rain during the afternoon, and better rain chances on Monday.

At this point we're looking to have a nice start to the weekend with partly cloudy skies on Saturday with highs around 42°.  It's been a while since we've seen this warmer weather, not since December 5th have we seen highs in the 40's, so get ready to enjoy a break from the cold!
