Light snow possible, single digit chills Saturday morning

In a very similar fashion to Thursday's disturbance, a winter weather advisory is in place.

But not for northern Illinois. As of this morning, a winter weather advisory is in place for areas north and northeast of the St. Louis Metro.

2" to as much as 5" of snow is possible in areas under the advisory. Locally, we'll be on the northern fridge of the precipitation shield, meaning we may squeeze in a few flurries and snow showers.

Our best chance will be prior to mid-morning, with clouds hanging tight into the afternoon.

Northwest winds continue, limiting high temperatures to the low 30s. Our forecast high is 32°. If we do top out at 32° this afternoon, that would break Rockford's 25 day streak with above average highs.

Skies gradually clear into tonight, setting the stage for a much colder Saturday morning.

Expect temperatures to fall into the low teens, with wind chills either in the single digits or just falling below the 0-degree mark. Cooler than average temperatures stick around for one more day as highs Saturday barely hit the 30° mark.

Winds turn to the southwest Sunday, pushing highs back in the low 40s. For those warm weather fans, this spike in temperatures continues well into next week as February torch returns. So much so that 50° weather makes another visit for a day or two!
