Northern Illinois placed under another dense fog advisory

For the 3rd morning in a row, a dense fog advisory has been issued for the Stateline. This time around, the advisory will run until 11AM as visibility could be at or below 1/4 mile.

Use caution while traveling as well as giving yourself enough following distance from other vehicles. Once the fog lets up, skies turn mostly cloudy for the rest of our Wednesday, with highs in the upper 40s.

A strengthening area of low pressure ejecting into the central plains will bring a two separate rounds of showers to the area Thursday.

The first will be a scattered round drifting through around the mid-day hours. The second round will pop up to our southwest, sliding through during the late-afternoon and mid-evening hours.

Winds increasing aloft will help bring more of a punch with the second round. While the potential for severe weather is unlikely, a few heavy downpours and rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out. For that, the Storm Prediction Center has placed a much of northern Illinois and all of southern Wisconsin under the "non-severe" category.

If we see an upward trend in certain atmospheric parameters, a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) may be needed for portions of northwest Illinois, eastern Iowa, and southwest Wisconsin. Rain should come to an end shortly before midnight, leaving skies cloudy as we go into Friday morning. Temperature are then expected to take a small tumble for the weekend following a pair of cold fronts, landing in the upper 30s and low 40s.
