9:00am Update: Parts of northern Illinois, Iowa and Missouri are currently being monitored for the potential for a severe thunderstorm watch. Ongoing thunderstorms this morning remain elevated as they sit well north of the surface warm front. Pea to nickel sized hail has been reported south of Rockford earlier this morning but there appears to be an increase in the hail threat through the morning, possibly transitioning over to a damaging wind threat through the early afternoon.

Showers and embedded thunderstorms continue to move east and northeast into Illinois this morning. By 8am the non-severe thunderstorms should be over the majority of the Stateline and continue through Noon. Severe weather is not anticipated but heavier downpours will be likely. The storms this morning are forming along a warm front roughly 3,000ft in the atmosphere. The low level jet has been fueling moisture into the southern edge of the storm cluster helping to drive them to the north and northeast. As the cluster of storms move further into the stable air in southern Wisconsin they'll begin to weaken a little while strong storms develop along the southern edge between I-80 and I-88.
