4th of July Forecast

Good morning Stateline and Happy 4th of July! πŸŽ†πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Talk about a beautiful way to start off America's 243rd birthday. We have a red, white, and blue sunrise out there this morning. Temperatures as you head out the door are very comfortable in the upper 60s-low 70s. The only thing to be mindful of this morning is the development of patchy fog across the region.

Because conditions stayed dry overnight and winds were light, patchy fog has developed and has become dense in a few spots. Most of the region is now experiencing less than 5 mile visibility. As you head out for the morning commute, take your time and use your low-beam headlights if you do encounter dense fog!

Let's start off the holiday with some climatology! For the city of Rockford, the hottest 4th of July on record was a scorcher and wasn't too long ago. Highs climbed into the low 100s back in 2012. Coldest Independence Day was 62° back in 1920. And the wettest 4th dates back to 1973 with 1.36" of rainfall!

A lot of festivities comes with the 4th of July holiday. Whether it's setting off fireworks, grilling outdoors, or spending some time in the pool. With that in mind, it is VERY important to not only keep yourself hydrated during the festivities, but also keep your skin protected. The UV index on a scale from 1 to 11 is at a 9 which is very high on the scale. So make sure to cover as much skin as possible to prevent sunburn!
As for the forecast, it's going to be a hot and humid 4th of July across the Stateline. Winds out of the southwest will pull in some moisture causing dew points to rise into the low 70s. That long with highs in the upper 80s later on will make it feel like the low 90s at times. While celebrating today, it is also important for you to stay hydrated.

There is a chance that mother nature will provide a few fireworks of her own later on. A stationary boundary to our south will lift as a warm front this afternoon. This will give the opportunity for scattered thunderstorms during the time frame of when firework are set to go off. Partly sunny skies this evening with a chance for scattered thunderstorms. Temperature-wise, very comfortable in the upper 70s and low 80! Happy 4th of July everyone. Stay hydrated and Safe!
