From snow to rain and everything in the middle

We were able to enjoy a little sunshine this morning but the clouds will soon begin to roll back in this afternoon as the next weather maker lifts northeast.  An area of low pressure currently in northern Texas will begin to move into Missouri later this afternoon.  Light rain is beginning to fall across parts of northern Missouri as of the noon hour and will spread north into the Midwest later this evening.  Flooding will once again be a concern for residents in the Mississippi and Ohio River Valleys and into the mid-Atlantic where Flood Watches/Warnings and Flash Flood Watches have been issued.  Rainfall totals there could range on the order of one to two inches, or higher.  Closer to home there could be bouts of heavier rainfall, but generally around a half an inch to possibly three quarters is what we'll see by Wednesday morning.  There may be a few regions that pick up higher amounts with some of the heavier rainfall and also if we have a few thunderstorms.

On the north side of this system, Winter Storm Watches/Warnings and Advisories have been issued extending through parts of Kansas, Nebraska, northwest Iowa, southeast Minnesota and central/southwest Wisconsin.  There residents can expect 3"-6", or higher amounts, of snowfall by Wednesday morning.

As the low passes to the northeast during the late morning hours on Wednesday rain will likely begin to diminish as dry air wraps around in the mid-levels of the atmosphere.  Cooler air will then begin to filter down and with any moisture that is left over a few light snow showers can be expected into Wednesday evening.  One thing we'll keep an eye on later tonight is the potential for a little more of a mix, especially in our far northwest counties, by daybreak Wednesday - as there is a Winter Weather Advisory as close to us as Grant County in southwest Wisconsin.
