Heightened Activity from a Volcano in Hawaii

HAWAII--- The Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii has been in constant eruption for 28 years. This weekend, scientists were made aware of recent activity. The volcano erupted lava that shot 65 feet in the air.

On Saturday, a crater floor within the volcano collapsed. The crater floor, Pu'u O'o fell 370 feet. With this collapse, 150 small earthquakes struck within the volcanic area.

On the other side of the island, a 535 yard-long fissure opened in the ground. Lava spewed from the ground at more than five feet in the air. Along with this eruption, another crater began erupting.

No one was injured from this eruption. Park rangers are urging visitors to keep their distance from the volcano. Even though the area around the volcano was closed, the volcano can still be seen from more than a mile and half away.
