Strong System May Cause Heavy Rain Tuesday Night

A ridge of high pressure is shifting of to the east tonight.  The Stateline will have light easterly winds tonight, tomorrow, and tomorrow night.  The area can expect to have variable cloud cover tonight and partly sunny skies for a time on Monday before it becomes mostly cloudy again.  There is a weak disturbance sitting across Minnesota that may cause some light snow, or a light snow and rain mixed to the northwest of Rockford Monday afternoon and night. With the high pressure to the east on Monday afternoon temperatures will top out at a seasonable level in the low 40's.  By 6 am on Tuesday morning a significant storm system will begin it's intensification process over Oklahoma.  Winds will increase from the southeast, and there will be a chance of light rain showers by afternoon across north central Illinois. Rains will increase in intensity and areal coverage overnight into early Wednesday, and could become locally heavy with isolated embedded thunderstorms.  Widespread rainfalls of an inch or more may cause rises on area streams and rivers. By Noon Wednesday the storm will be passing right overhead as it heads northeast towards Milwaukee by 6 pm.  As colder air wraps around the departing low rain will change to wet snow and end fairly quickly.  At this time no appreciable acumulation is anticipated.
