Climate tells us we should be at our coldest by this time

It's hard to believe that this should be the coldest time in winter when we're talking temperatures that will be in the low 50s this afternoon.  Climatologically high temperatures should be right around 29° with a rise in averages closer to the end of the month.  Not only will we be in the low 50s but we'll be just a short distance from the record for this afternoon which is 55° set back in 1975.  Winds will generally stay light today so any heating we receive will come mainly from the sun rather than some type of warm air advection.  Either way it's going to be nice today!  Even Wednesday highs will be close to record territory; the record for Wednesday is 50° set back in 1980.

A strong cold front coming in Wednesday night will put an end to this April weather in January.  Temperatures will fall below average Thursday and Friday and possibly remain in the upper 20s through the weekend...especially if we get any snow on Thursday.

  1. Looking at the long-term climate record, do you know how many times temps have reached the mid-upper 40s this time of year? Just curious.
