Some Beneficial Rains on the Way

A low pressure storm system over southeast Nebraska will move to near the Quad Cities by daybreak.  A warm front extends across southern Wisconsin and a cold front lies well west of the Stateline tonight.  Our region is in the warm sector with temperatures in the low to middle 60's as of 10:45 pm cdt.  The Gulf of Mexico is wide open, and this is modified gulf air that is present tonight.  Temperatures will hold steady in the low to mid 60's overnight.  Showers and thunderstorms over Missouri, Iowa, and western Illinois are becoming more widespread as they move northeast toward the Stateline.  Showers are likely overnight, and there could be some heavier thunderstorms later tonight.  The low pressure center will move right across the area by the noon hour on Sunday.  There still could be some thunderstorms in the morning on Sunday, but with the cold front pushing across the area during the mid day hours, any precipitation that falls during the afternoon with be just showers.  The wind will pick up from the northwest during the afternoon, and gust to 30 mph dropping temperatures back into the low 50's by 5 pm.  It will still be breezy on Sunday evening followed by decreasing clouds overnight.  It will be much cooler with a low around 40 degrees.  High pressure over the southern plains early Monday will move to eastern Kentucky by early Tuesday morning.  It will be mostly sunny and seasonable on Monday with a high in the low 60's.  On Tuesday a southwesterly wind will boost temperatures back into the upper 60's across northern Illinois.  A weather system over the plains will bring a chance of scattered showers back to the Stateline on Tuesday night.  It will approach the area on Wednesday, and there will be a pretty good chance of some showers, and possibly even a thunderstorm late Wednesday into Wednesday night.  High temperatures on Wednesday will reach near 67 degrees.  A cool front will sweep across the area around midnight Wednesday night.  Cooler unsettled air will follow in behind the front so that there will be a slight chance of showers on Thursday and Friday with highs in the 50's.
