Severe thunderstorms moving through

5:35pm Update:  Thunderstorms continue to develop south of the Quad Cities this evening with numerous severe thunderstorm warnings and even one tornado warning for Lee, Hancock and Clark Counties.  A Tornado Watch has been issued for Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll and Whiteside counties until 10pm this evening.  Storms that have been developing to the south have shown signs of rotation within them indicated by radar.  Remain alert if you're west of Rockford through the evening.








The storm that prompted the severe thunderstorm warning in Rock County has moved north.  While the weather will likely remain quiet through the remainder of the afternoon there have been storms firing up across central Iowa.  These will need to be monitored for any development to the east.  There have also been storms developing in northeast Missouri and those are currently moving northeast.  Tornado watches remain in effect to the west across Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota and far western Illinois.


3:20pm: Update:  Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Green County has been canceled.  The Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Rock County continues.


2:53pm Radar Update:



Severe Thunderstorm Warning has expired for Stephenson County...continues for Green and Rock County until now 3:45pm.


Severe Thunderstorm Warning continues for Stephenson County until 3pm and for Green and Rock counties until 3pm.  Storm right now over Monroe producing 60 mph wind gusts.  Take shelter now if in the path of the storm.








A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect Jo Daviess and Stephenson counties until 3pm and for Green and Rock counties until 3pm.  This storm is moving to the northeast around 45 mph.  Wind gusts between 60-70 mph, very heavy rain, frequent lightning and penny to nickel sized hail are all possible. 

This storm has had a history of producing penny sized hail and wind gusts near 65 mph in Jo Daviess County.  Take shelter if in the path of this storm.  Locations in the path of the storm include Orangeville, Cedarville, and Freeport in Illinois and Monroe in Wisconsin.
