Quiet weekends will end with this upcoming weekend

The relatively quiet weekends we've had the past four weeks will be coming to an end this weekend.  The temperatures will be warmer, but rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast.  After a quiet and warm week, the Gulf of Mexico will be open for business late the weekend providing northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin with a bit more moisture which will lead to a higher probability of rainfall with some areas receiving over an inch to inch and a half of rain by Sunday night.

A warm front will pull closer to the Stateline Friday night into Saturday morning and rest just to the north of the border by Saturday morning.  South of the front the weather should remain dry, but along and north of the front spotty showers and even a couple thunderstorms will be possible in Wisconsin.  Where the clouds and rain hold off the longest, temperatures have a decent shot of reaching the low 70's.  By Saturday afternoon and evening a weak upper level low will move within the jet stream which will kick off showers and thunderstorms from Iowa southwest into Kansas.  A few isolated showers/storms are possible in N. IL and S. WI during the afternoon, but a greater chance for rain will arrive by Saturday evening and Saturday night.  During the day Sunday the rain will be a little more scattered until the late afternoon and evening when low pressure moves in from the southwest.  This will bring additional moisture in from the Gulf which will run right along a cold front that will be positioned near the Mississippi River.  It's along that front that heavier rain could fall as the low moves into northern Illinois Sunday night.  Cooler air coming in on the backside of the low will drop temperatures by Monday into the 40's causing a blustery afternoon.  Both myself and Meteorologist Brandon Arnold will have you covered this weekend, so make sure you tune in for the latest on rainfall totals as well as the below average temperatures!

  2. Not enough of a chance to be concerned right now. If we see any severe weather on Saturday, it will more than likely be in the form of hail and strong winds. -BA
