Flooding Concerns Saturday Night

On and off thunderstorms and showers have dominated the Stateline since Friday morning.  Unfortunately, we've got yet another round of it moving in tonight.  Luckily we get some dry time for most of the evening, before this system moves into the Stateline from the northwest around 10pm.  These thunderstorms will be capable of producing downpours again.

The SPC has issued a Marginal Risk and Slight Risk for severe weather in various areas of the Stateline.  This will be in play during the entire overnight, as multiple showers and thunderstorms will pass through, just like last night.

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Winnebago, Ogle, Lee, Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll, and Whiteside counties through 10am Sunday.  Flash flooding will definitely be the main concern overnight, especially in Rockford, as there was just some flash flooding there late last night.

Even though flooding will be the main concern, some hail will be possible too.  However, the hail is only a concern for Carroll and Whiteside counties, as instability will be greatest in those areas during the overnight.  Up to quarter-inch size hail will be possible in those areas, so if you live in those counties you'll want to keep your cars in the garage overnight.

Since the showers and thunderstorms will stay predominantly from Rockford and Rochelle to the western edge of the viewing area, all those areas will see the most rainfall.  Some areas will pick up close to 2 inches of rain during the overnight, with isolated areas possibly seeing a little more.  If you live in Rockford, keep in mind that flooding just occurred there early this morning, so this area will definitely be the main concern overnight.

By 10pm, this system will start moving into the Stateline from the northwest, and will track southeastward through the Stateline during the overnight.  Once we reach around 10am on Sunday though, everything will start to become more isolated, and it'll stay that way through mid day, before more showers and thunderstorms arrive Sunday afternoon.

Some of these thunderstorms that pop up Sunday afternoon will also be fairly strong, with strong wind gusts and some hail being possible, mainly late afternoon.

Once we get passed 7pm Sunday evening everything will start dying down, staying dry through the majority of Monday.  Another round of thunderstorms will move in Monday during the overnight, but then afterwards we'll be dry the rest of the week!  We'll get sunshine and temperatures in the upper 70's and low 80's, and lower humidity as well.
