November Recap and December Preview

The end of November marked the end of Meteorological Fall. 28 of the 30 days during the month of November were below average. November 2018 is tied with November 1911 for the 7th coldest November on record in Rockford. The average temperature was 32.3°, and the normal November average temperature is 38.9°. To put it into prospective, the coldest November on record in Rockford was in 1976 with an average temperature of 28°.

The below average temperatures will continue into the first week of December. Highs for the 3rd-9th should be in the mid-upper 30s. We will hold steady in the lower 30s the next few days before dipping down into the mid and upper 20s late this week and into the weekend.

Warmer than average temperatures look to return during the middle of the month. The Climate Prediction Center's 8-14 day temperature outlook puts a large portion of the county under the chance to see warmer than normal temperatures from December 10th-16th.

During that same time frame, The Climate Prediction Center's 8-14 day precipitation outlook shows we have a slight chance of seeing wetter than normal conditions.

But precipitation is not what we need right now. After a warm and rainy weekend, much of the snow we had on the ground has melted. As a result many fields have standing water, and the Rock River at Byron is even under a Flood Advisory.
