NOAA on Thursday released it's outlook for the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The prediction: "The Atlantic basin is expected to see an above-normal hurricane season this year". Source: NOAA
Some factors that were looked at to help put this outlook together:
- The continuing high activity era
- Warm Atlantic Ocean water
- La Nina; which continues to weaken. However, it's impacts such as reduced shear are expected to last into the hurricane season.
Even though the U.S. was spared any land falling hurricane, we might not be as lucky this year. It only takes one hurricane to hit the U.S. for it to be considered devastating.
