8:30am Update: Continued warm air advection and outflow boundaries from storms further upstream have helped a few storms "pop up" near the Rockford area as of 8:15am. This is generally going to be the case through the morning as that boundary moves southeast. I'm actually starting to wonder if temperatures may be a little cooler, especially where the rain has fallen, across far northern Illinois. There is clearing south and I think with the general wind direction from the southwest we should clear out some later this morning. Because of that I'm going to keep my 92°, but temperatures a little further north and west may have to be dropped some. I'll continue to monitor trends this morning.
6:45am Update: Earlier this morning a very narrow band of showers and thunderstorms developed from Woodstock stretching southwest to near Dixon and Sterling. Those have since diminished, but a few more have developed in eastern Iowa thanks to a continued feed of moisture and outflow boundaries from storms in Minnesota. General motion of the storms is southwest to northeast.
These are all forming ahead of a weak cool front that sits in northwest Iowa. The warm, humid air flowing ahead of the front has allowed for a little cloud growth and from that we get the showers. These may actually weaken a bit before moving in the area. I am, though, going to keep an isolated thunderstorm in the forecast through mid-morning. There are a few stronger storms across north central Iowa closer to the cold front but those shouldn't have an impact on us.
Cloud cover this afternoon may keep temperatures down some but it's still going to be humid. As that front moves closer the storm threat will increase later this evening and overnight. Be sure to keep checking back today and tomorrow for all the latest weather information!
