It will be mostly cloudy today. A weak cold front will move through the area by the early afternoon hours switching the wind to the northwest. Look for a high in the low to mid 40's. Some light snow may dust the area between 6 pm and midnight. No more than a few tenths of an inch are expected (at most), with the temperature dropping into the low 20's. The high pressure following in behind the front is mainly of Pacific origin dragging down just a little Canadian air on it's eastern periphery. So, skies will be mostly sunny across the area on Friday, and temperatures will be seasonal with an afternoon high in the upper 30's.
High pressure will be well east of the area by Friday evening, and winds will become southerly as a new area of low pressure develops in Texas. This system will bring lots of Gulf of Mexico moisture northward into the mid west. Temperatures will bottom out early on Friday night before clouds lower and thicken across the Stateline, and then rise overnight with warmer air riding in from the south. The low is expected to be in the upper 20's, so depending on what time the precipitation starts, it could be in the form of snow, or rain and snow mixed. With the temperature rising overnight all precipitation should change over to light rain by daybreak on Saturday.
Saturday will be a cloudy rainy day. Most of the rain will be light, but could be moderate at times through early Saturday night. The low is expected to track from southwest to northeast right across the local area. Any deviation from that track will change the type and amount of precipitation. At this time it appears that rain will mix with snow on Saturday night as the low moves off to the northeast. With soil temperatures above freezing, and the overnight low on Saturday night above freezing little or no accumulation of snow is expected at this time into Sunday as the precipitation changes over to snow showers and comes to an end.
Another area of high pressure will take control of area weather from Monday through next Wednesday. It will be dry and chilly with a good amount of sunshine.
