As the flakes fell Monday morning I decided to take a look at when we, on average, begin to see the first snowfall and when we typically see the first inch of snow.
The average date of the first trace of snow, which is less than one one hundredth of an inch, is November 2nd. So Monday's light snow some of us experienced was almost right on par. Skip forward to when we typically receive the first inch of snow and it's not until the 1st of December. Now as many of us know we can easily pick up an inch before the first week of December or sometimes it can well into the winter season. This was the case back in 1921 when the first inch of snow didn't fall until February 7th! No snow is in the forecast this week, but next week could be a different story.
