1:45 pm Update:
Snow will continue through the remainder of the afternoon with snowfall rates of 1"/hr for the next hour or so from Rockford east towards Chicago.
A transition to snow has begun along and north of Highway 20 early this afternoon. The snow that is falling will be heavy and wet with temperatures right around 32° this afternoon, but will initially melt on contact due to the recent rain. Looks like the heaviest snow is occurring near the Wisconsin/Illinois border from Beloit to north of Poplar Grove and into McHenry county. Accumulations near 2" likely but where the snow started earlier this morning accumulations closer to 4" possible; especially for locations north/northeast of the Rockford Metro. West and southwest of Rockford will see lesser amounts as most of the snow will remain tied to far northern Illinois.
