Funnel clouds were spotted just west of Chicago yesterday. They were able to form with the help of a combination of things; two of those being a front that was inching closer to Chicago and a lake breeze pushing inland. They could see the same thing happen today as well. The National Weather Service wrote up an explanation of what happened. This photo was taken in Oak Brook:

pre-existing low-level "spin" and helped produce the funnel clouds.
