From Nebraska to North Texas Wednesday night, severe storms produced numerous tornadoes in the Plains. Some of the hardest hit areas were in and around the Oklahoma City, OK area where several tornadoes moved through Wednesday night.
Now, areas that were hard hit with severe weather yesterday are preparing themselves for what could be several more days of active weather through the weekend.
A developing and strengthening trough, or dip, the jet stream will move through the Southwest Thursday night and Friday as low pressure draws in warm and unstable air northward through the Plains. Already, a Moderate Risk for severe weather is in place across areas of Kansas and Oklahoma Friday and Saturday. The potential is there for a major severe weather outbreak Saturday afternoon and evening.
That threat begins to shift east Sunday and
Monday of next week. Showers and thunderstorms are likely for the Stateline Friday night and early Saturday, but the severe threat should remain low. Heavy rain is possible both those days.
By Sunday night, low pressure will have moved into Iowa with a warm front lifting into southern Wisconsin. It's possible that the threat for strong to severe weather may increase locally by
Monday, depending on the placement of low pressure Monday afternoon. While it's not set in stone, make sure you keep the Sunday through Monday time frame in mind.
We'll continue to update you through the weekend, so be sure to check back!
