The past week has been relatively quiet in terms of the weather but we end the week with light showers Thursday into early Friday. You might even hear a few rumbles of thunder overnight with a few embedded thunderstorms, but overall storm chances are low the next couple of days. But that will change looking ahead into the end of the weekend. A deep surface low pressure system now moving on shore will track across portions of the northern plains and through the Mississippi Valley. Along with this, the jet stream pattern above with change, bringing stronger winds and forcing across the Midwest. Ahead of a trailing cold front showers and storms are possible, with the possibility of a few stronger storms. This will depend on when exactly this sets up, stronger storms would be more favored in the afternoon and early evening with the heating of the day. Storms look to develop to the west and track north east. However if the storms develop later the threat will decrease, so we will continue to keep you updated with this system. The surface low then passes across the northern Great Lakes late Sunday night into Monday morning. A few lingering showers are possible early Monday morning as this system exits. Temperatures will fall into the 60s behind the front as high pressure builds in.
