Old Man Winter Pays an Early Visit

Old man winter made an appearance a bit earlier than scheduled. Temperatures overnight under clearing skies fell into the low 20s in our southeast areas, even further into the teens to our northwest. Comparing that to what we typically see this time of year, that is about 15 to 20° below average. Now that is cold. Unfortunately, the below average trend continues as highs today won't make it over freezing today.

With that in mind, it is very important to dress for the weather. Especially when you have wind chill temperatures starting out like they did this morning in the teens and single digits. And more so that we are getting closer to the official start of Winter. So when you go out in the cold, dress accordingly. Make sure to layer up with several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing to keep your body warm. Also make sure to wear a hat and a pair of gloves to keep your head and hands from getting cold.

A wide and strong area of high pressure is moving closer to the Stateline following yesterday’s light snow. You may have noticed earlier this morning that we did start off with a bit of cloud cover. As the morning progressed, those clouds moved out of the region leaving us with sunny skies. Plenty of sunshine will last us into the afternoon, so if you’re able to tolerate wind chills hovering near 20° at times, get outside and enjoy it. Highs today will only climb to near 31°, which is our average high for the end of December and the beginning of February.
