Government Shutdown Won't Affect NWS

Assuming a government shutdown happens Monday night, the NWS would continue operating since they protect against a "significant and imminent threat".

This exemption only applies to people like forecasters, however. Weather researchers would not be working during a shutdown.

You can find a more in-depth discussion of the shutdown and its affects by the Capital Weather Gang at The Washington Post. -BA
