Storm Threat & Weekend Cool Down

Good Friday morning Stateline. Hopefully you all had a wonderful and safe 4th of July! This Independence Day marked 9 days in a row with high temperatures right around 90 degrees. Today may be the last day we experience these hot and humid conditions before cooler and less humid air moves in for the weekend.

As for today, we started out very comfortably and dry across the region. Plenty of morning sunshine and winds out of the southwest have warmed us up pretty quickly. Temperatures right now are sitting the upper 70s-low 80s.
A cold front off to our northwest will spark up scattered thunderstorms this afternoon & evening. Ahead of the front, high temperatures will be near 90 degrees again, with the heat index as high as the mid-90s.

Today's activity will be very similar to what we experienced during our Independence Day yesterday. Very scattered. The Storm Prediction Center has placed half of our viewing area under a Marginal Risk for severe weather (level 1 of 5). Gusty winds, large hail, and heavy rain will once again be the main threats!

This cold front doesn't look to progress through the region until after midnight. This will continue to bring a chance for scattered thunderstorms through the night tonight into the late morning hours tomorrow. What this frontal boundary will also do is give us a break from these hot and humid conditions we've had during this 9-10 day stretch.

The heat, humidity, and rain chances will all go down this weekend. Saturday and Sunday will feature highs in the low 80s. Saturday will still feel a little bit muggy, but dew points will be decreasing throughout the day. The good news is, we will have a comfortable end to the weekend and start to next week. High pressure sliding to the north of the region will keep things quiet and dry from Sunday through Tuesday!
