The chance for rain will increase Wednesday evening and overnight bringing nearly half an inch to some across northern Illinois.
A cold front will move across northern Illinois early Wednesday morning before settling over central and southern Illinois by the afternoon. Skies are expected to remain clear through the morning with increasing cloud cover through the afternoon.
Low pressure moving in from the west Wednesday will spread moisture across central and northern Illinois increasing the chance for rain over the Stateline by Wednesday evening. Rain showers will increase in coverage, becoming more widespread overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Cooler air to the north could allow for a few snowflakes to mix in, especially near the Wisconsin/Illinois border.
The rain will become a little more scattered by Thursday afternoon and evening but temperatures will be brisk as east winds pull in a cooler air mass. This will hold temperatures in the mid 40s through much of the afternoon - nearly ten degrees below average.
Rainfall totals will range from around a quarter of an inch to the north, up to three quarters of an inch to the south.
