We started off the morning much different then when we did 24 hours ago. A thin line of showers associated with a slow moving frontal boundary moved in this morning bringing light accumulations to the region. Most of us saw just over a tenth of an inch.
As for right now, we are in a brief lull in the shower activity with more rain off to the south. Some dry air has worked its way in from a high pressure system draped over the Great Lakes. Now, we will continue to keep the shower chances in the forecast through the rest of today. A separate system off in Central Missouri will track just south of the Stateline this afternoon and evening. Most of the heavier rain will stay off to the south, but we could see a few showers spark up as of a result. Everything should taper off by tomorrow morning leaving us with mostly cloudy skies.
Along with the shower threat, winds will be ramping up this afternoon as well. Winds started out light out of the east, but have since then increased. Right now, winds are still out of the east but are much stronger. Sterling has already observed 20 mph wind speeds!
Here is a look at what wind gusts will be like for the rest of today. Highest wind gusts will occur around 2 PM and then we will continue to see 25 mph wind gusts overnight tonight.
