Flash Flood Watch Has Expired

We had several rounds of heavy rain make their way through the Stateline the past few days. Rainfall totals between Sunday evening and Wednesday morning stretch from 4.29" in Somonauk (Dekalb county) to 2.25" in Woodstock (McHenry County). There were areas outside of the Stateline that received as much as 6 inches of rain during this 4 day span. Rockford ended up with just over 3" of rain.
Now, we did have some light to moderate rain associated with an upper-level low this morning. The heaviest of the rain, including a few embedded thunderstorms, stayed primarily to the south.  As of 10:30 AM this morning, the Flash Flood Watch has been cancelled for the rest of the viewing area! It was originally set to expire around 1 PM this afternoon. But since the rain has moved out quicker than expected, we are no longer under a Flash Flood Watch.

The recent rainfall has led to elevated river levels across the region. Observations this morning show that the Kishwaukee River along Perryville is now at Minor Flood stage, while the Kishwaukee River in Belvidere is in the Action Flood stage. The Rock River in both Dixon & Byron is also at Action Flood stage. For that reason, flood advisories are in effect for portions of the Kishwaukee, Pecatonica, and Rock Rivers. These will stay in effect until early next week, or until further notice. If you live or work near these areas, pay close attention to the forecast. Also as a reminder, if you come across flooded roadways, “turn around, don’t drown!” Find a different route to your destination. Rain chances will continue to decrease as we head into the afternoon today.
