A System Without Much Rain on Tuesday

Skies will be mostly clear for the next several hours.  With a warm front just off the southwest edging toward the Stateline, there is a slight chance of showers before morning, and possibly even an isolated thunderstorm.  Lows will be in the low 50's.  On Tuesday low pressure will drag the warm front very close to the Greater Rockford area by noon.  Chances of showers and possibly a thunderstorm will continue as the temperatures rise to around 70 degrees, before falling back into the middle 60's later in the afternoon.  The wind will be light southeasterly in the morning switching to the north at 10-15 mph in the afternoon following the passage of the low and it's associated cold front.  Skies will be partly cloudy in the early evening, but will clear later on as colder and drier air moves in from the north.  The overnight low will be around 40 degrees.  A massive ridge of high pressure stretching from northern Manitoba in Canada into Minnesota will continue a northerly air flow into the mid west on Wednesday.  It will be sunny and cooler with a high in the low 60's.  The high will shift toward the southeast to a position over central Ontario by 6 am on Thursday.  The net result will be that it will continue the downward trend in temperature.  Despite sunny skies the high on Thursday will only be around 54 degrees with a steady breeze from the northeast at 20 mph.  It will be a chilly day on Chicago's north side for the opening of the Cubs baseball season.  There it probably will not get above 47 degrees all day with a stiff northeast wind off the Lake.  The sprawling Canadian high will continue southeast, and drop temperatures into the low to middle 30's by late Thursday night/early Friday morning with frost potential.  By 6 am on Saturday the high will be all sitting near Buffalo New York, and temperatures will start to moderate with a southerly wind developing across northern Illinois.  The next frontal system will be approaching the mid west from the northern and central plains.  It will start out mostly sunny on Saturday morning, but clouds will increase in the afternoon.  The will be a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms later on Saturday afternoon through early Saturday night.  Sunday will be mostly sunny and a little cooler.  The high will be in the low 60's.  Some Canadian air will be tapped on the front edge of the approaching high pressure over the northern plains.  It will be cooler on Monday with a high in the upper 50's.
