"They're Baaaack"

Okay...'they're' not back but 'IT' is....the Omega Block that is.

We talked about it last month, and while you might not remember that, hopefully you'll remember the stretch of nice weather we had!

A lot of our weather is driven by what happens in the mid-levels of the atmosphere, some 15-18,000 feet above the surface of the Earth. We call this area the troposphere. In this level, a pattern known as the 'Omega Block' will set up shop, so to speak this weekend. An Omega Block looks like the Greek letter Omega, hence it's name and is characterized but two anchoring low pressure systems on both the east and west coasts. Along with a large area of high pressure in the middle, usually over the central plains. Typically, this pattern brings a stretch of beautiful weather for northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, and that is exactly what we will see for the end of this week and this weekend.

Highs today will make it to 70° under mostly sunny skies, and Friday looks even better near 72°. Sunshine continues for the weekend as we climb into the mid and upper 70's. We even have a shot at 80° next week but the dry pattern looks to come to an end on Tuesday with rain arriving midday.

Even though it looks to be a bit more active next week in terms of rain chances, the warmth will stick a round. The Climate Prediction Center is out looking northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and eastern Iowa with a very high probability to have above average temperatures through next week. Most of the plains and south will notice the warmth as well, while both of the coasts look to have cooler weather to end May.
