Local Rivers Continue to Rise - Could Cause Flooding by the Weekend

Both the Pecatonica and Rock Rivers are under either Flood Warnings or Flood Advisories until further notice in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.  River levels have been running high, but below flood stage, with the recent rainfall back in September.  Heavy rain fell Sunday night into Monday morning in the river basin, causing river levels to increase slightly Monday afternoon.  Additional rainfall Monday evening pushed the river level in many locations just
below minor flood stage, with points along the Pecatonica and Rock Rivers expected to rise into minor flood stage by Wednesday.  However, the Rock River at Latham Park is now in minor flood stage.

With additional rainfall expected later this week and weekend, some of which could be heavy, there are some concerns that the rivers may rise significantly by the end of the weekend and early next week.

A changing pattern will allow a series of storm systems to move through the Plains and Midwest.  This will keep the chance for heavy rainfall beginning Thursday night and lasting through Sunday.  Rainfall amounts could add up to several inches by Sunday night.  For those who live along the river, be sure to pay attention to current and forecast river stages.
