Ice Jam Flooding on the Rock River

A Flood Warning has been issued for the Rock River at Dixon due to ice jam flooding.  The warning extends from near Castle Rock State Park near Oregon, downstream to the Lee County line until further notice.  Emergency managers are reporting flooding due to an ice jam in Dixon.  Page Drive is closed to due to flooding and there is a separate ice jam near Sauk Valley Community College.

River ice spotters are also reporting flooding of agricultural land due to an ice jam approximately 5 miles upstream of Dixon off of White Oaks Drive.  Ice jams tend to cause rapid fluctuations in water levels with little to no warming.  During an ice jam, not all locations may experience impacts at the same time or at the same level of severity.  As the ice moves additional ice jams may develop further downstream.  Those who live along the river should remain alert for flooding and quickly changing water levels.
