River Flooding Possible After Saturday's Rainfall

Heavy rain fell across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin Saturday afternoon and evening producing anywhere from half an inch, up to 0.80 inches.  Most of the rain wasn't able to soak into the ground due to it still being frozen.  This caused quite a bit of the rain to runoff into ditches, as well as local creeks and rivers.

Flood Warnings, Advisories and Watches have been issued for the Pecatonica, Rock and
Kishwaukee Rivers through at least the next week and a half.  River forecasts have some rivers rising into action or moderate flood stage by the end of the week.  Rivers have already been running high from this past Fall and early Winter following heavy rainfall.  The Kishwaukee River at Perryville is already at Moderate flood stage, expected to briefly drop before rising back into Moderate flood stage by the end of the week.  The Kishwaukee River at Belvidere is in Action stage, forecast to rise into Moderate flood stage by the end of the week.

The Rock River at Byron and Dixon are also in Action stage and are forecast to rise close to, or slightly above, Moderate flood stage by the end of the week.  The Pecatonica River at both Freeport and Shirland are forecast to rise through Moderate flood stage by the middle of the week, possibly reaching - or coming close to - Major flood stage by this weekend.  Additional rainfall later this week will only contribute to the ongoing flooding concerns.
