Severe Weather Preparedness Week: Thursday

Severe Weather Preparedness Week continues on today, and we're going to discuss lightning safety. Many people have heard the phrase, "When thunder roars, go indoors!" It's important to remember that because if you hear thunder, lightning is close enough to strike you. If you can, seek shelter indoors when thunderstorms approach your area. If you are unable to seek shelter indoors, a closed and hard top metal vehicle is safe in a storm.

The National Weather Service has concluded their survey of the damage from the Lee County, AL tornado from March 3rd, 2019.

The tornado formed 3 miles northwest of Society Hill, Al. It then traveled 3 miles northeast of Smiths Station, AL before traveling 10.5 miles east-northeast of Talbotton, GA. In total, the twister traveled 68.8 miles across Alabama and Georgia. Survey results of the damage have led the National Weather Service to categorize the tornado as an EF-4 when it started in Alabama before weakening slightly to an EF-3 towards the end of it's life cycle.
