Not only was today's 67-degree high 25 degrees above average, it fell just 3 degrees shy of our record for the date and it was the first time we've seen the 60s since November 15th. A strong southerly wind at the surface and a ridge of high pressure aloft contributed to the early-season warmth.
Of course, the weather can be much, much colder than this in early March. On this date back in 1960, Rockford set a daily and monthly record low temperature of -7F! Colder-than-average temperatures were typical in March of 1960, as this was the coldest 3rd month on record in Rockford.
