Some of you may be scratching your heads and asking "Candice, what happened with the temperatures this weekend?"
Unfortunately, temperatures were not what I had anticipated when putting the forecast together last Friday morning. Saturday's high was 51° and looks like today's high will fall just shy of 60°.
All last week our forecast models were indicating a warm frontal boundary would lift north of the area late Saturday night into Sunday suggesting temperatures by Sunday afternoon would reach the 80s. By Friday morning there was some thought that the front would not move that far north and would in fact remain to our southwest keeping a cooler easterly breeze across north-central Illinois and southern Wisconsin. I was hopeful this wasn't going to be the case, but this is what indeed has happened. The easterly breeze both Saturday and today has kept the low stratus deck of clouds across much of the area while our neighbors to the south are enjoying the sunshine and warmth. (Temperatures Sunday afternoon in Sterling and Moline were in the mid and upper 70s)
Bummer. Oh well. It's finally spring, so warmth will be here to stay soon!
